Please note:
Safaris departing Thursday - actual camel departure time is 9:30am Friday. You must arrive at location specified in booking confirmation at 4.00pm on Day 1 (Thursday). We will of course have an evening meal ready for you.
Safaris departing Mondays and Tuesdays - actual camel departure time is 3:00pm on same day. You must arrive at location specified in booking confirmation at 11.00am on Day 1. We will of course provide you with lunch prior to departure.

Miscellaneous

Swags: a swag is a canvas bedroll with foam mattress that we can supply to you (free of charge) to use with your sleeping bag. (Don't forget to bring your own bedding - a good sleeping bag is fine.)

Helper Discount:
To alleviate staffing issues due to our remote location Explore the Outback offers limited clients a substantial 25% "helper" discount.

While everyone is asked to help with camel collection, shepherding, saddling, loading and unloading, additional duties are simple, varied and enjoyable.

This discount replaces any other applicable discount (e.g. student/pensioner or family).

Transit Service:
A 4WD transit service is available ($165/head) between Coober Pedy and the trekking base camp (includes return).

Assumption of Risk: all clients 18 years and over are required to sign an Assumption of Risk Signature Form. This form is to be completed and signed by a parent or legal guardian for minors.

What to bring? (detail)
  • Small personal tent (we provide share tents, x2/tent)
  • Bedding
  • Personal bag
  • Camera or day bag
  • Small water bottle (1 litre, with carry strap)
  • Fly veil
  • Insect repellent
  • Mosquito net (rarely necessary)
  • Stout walking shoes
  • Thongs
  • Torch and batteries
  • Some reading material (?)
  • Light rain coat
  • Small light 8' x 10' plastic tarp
  • Pocket knife

Remember :

  • Cold nights, cool days
  • Water will be restricted

  • Sunscreen
  • Long sleeved shirt
  • Broad brimmed hat
  • Unscented baby wipes are excellent
  • Baby powder (Clayton's shower)
  • Carrot treats for the camels
  • Some string (for whatever)

We have swags/pillows if you have none but bring your own bedding, a sleeping bag will do. Basically you just have to bring yourself and sleeping bag - the above will just make it easier for you.
